this year did not disappoint on the famous cousin shot

IMG_3813

no, it’s not a postmodern commentary on the consumerism that plaques the western world

it’s not a veiled reference to the Target security debacle

it’s a bag of dog poo, in a high in a tree, outside my kitchen widow

I do not jest, in the Pinterest, Southern Living, Facebook edited version of our lives, sometimes we feel that we are less than

so here is some dog poo that my lovely daughter flung in a tree, um yeah- thanks sweetie, just what the outdoor decor needed

add that with an emergency appendectomy for Joe’s dad, followed by a second surgery due to complications

throw in fighting kids, colds, and general holiday drama-
well, Southern Living isn’t calling

I share this not to be Debbie Downer but to say:
crazy is ok, normal even
into everyone’s life a little dog doo will fly
embrace the dysfunction, laugh when you can and know that you are not alone….and merry christmas!!!

grateful

IMG_2188

on the last evening of the weekend
I’m overwhelmed with gratefulness
it was an ordinary, wonderful weekend
a Nancy Drew party, laundry- always the laundry,
Cheese Cake Factory, Chima lego looking,
Christmas shopping, Thanksgiving grocery gathering,
introducing the kids to Captain Jack Sparrow,
tree trimming, coffee drinking wonderful weekend

IMG_3664

no worries, the new stockings are ordered

IMG_3667

it’s the year for stripes and polka dots under our tree

IMG_3668

I had fun McGievering some wreaths in the kitchen

IMG_3669

leopard duck tape may have been utilized
IMG_3670

our tree really reflects our kiddos, you’ll find bubble glass batman, doughnuts, elmo, and hello kitty

SDC10208

this was taken at Graham’s third birthday just days after closing in 2010

when we bought the house, we knew there was a lot of work to do

the location and square footage were perfect but it was 80s fantabulous

the kitchen was the worst with the horrible floors, lighting, cabinets, appliances everything

first we fixed the drop ceiling lighting, then the floors, then painted walls and cabinets

it was a work in progress for so very long….

as time and money allowed, we worked bit by bit

IMG_3655

and now the AFTER

I am so very pleased with the results

but now I am very much in need of a nap

078

things have been wild, busy, and wacky….
in the last two days, I have attended five hours of professional development after work
one of these included various and sundry sports analogies and a Neil Diamond impression
really, I wish I was making this stuff up

080

Ava girl has new glasses that suit her sassy self…
Just in time to be dramatic about a raccoon report that will
go on her “permanent record”

079

and we have a new stove- She’s a jewel of a gal that goes by Maude (cause it’s not weird to name your appliances, right?)

more fun is coming soon to the kitchen and I may be so excited that sleep is difficult!

081

lovely surprises

084

this greeted me on my way to work…
so stunning I pulled over
then I heard a little voice in the back seat
praying a thank you to God
and asking for the day to be filled
with more “lovely suprises”

I’m just not an animal person. My favorite animal is a lightning bug. They are fun to watch and never invade your personal space.

But this beautiful girl of mine has pined for a dog for years. Her first word at 9 months was "dog". For her 9th birthday, we decided it was time.

Bella is a lab mix from a local rescue.

IMG_3559

Joey added a doggie door to the sunroom. We built a nice little fence.

IMG_3551

She waited until we were off at work to jump said fence and run around our neighborhood. The next day we locked the doggie door while we went back to buy even more lumber to modify our fence. She escaped again.

IMG_3545

And she refuses to eat dry dog food and she needs a night-light and she is so adored by our family. We now have a six-foot fence and she’s only escaped through the house and garage twice.

Ava says her middle name is Houdini. Bella Houdini Thompson has a nice ring.

october

IMG_3564

there is just something about the light in October

IMG_3568

I took some creative liberties with some thrift store pumpkins

IMG_3569

thrift store pumpkins need to feel the love, Ava was not impressed with my polka dot attempt

IMG_3573

oh sweet fall, you make me smile
