if you have ever been, seen, or known an adolescent girl
well, you know that it’s a challenging time
a sweet older man complimented Ava in the grocery store
He was impressed with her manners and confidence
(these can be in short supply at times)
He smiled and said, “You’re doing a great job mom”
if he only knew how much I needed to hear that
this parenting gig is hard for sure
most of the time I feel like I’m getting at least part of it all wrong
but to all the parents out there
you’re doing a great job!
you don’t let your daughter buy the trashy Halloween costume- great job!
you count to ten after your child rolls her eyes- great job!
you cook dinner and help with homework after a long day instead of binge watching Netflix- great job!
you sign two checks and three forms in the car line while teaching a life lesson- great job!
fill in the blank but be sure to add great job at the end!

y’all know I love to monogram, well, it’s been taken to a whole new level!
I got a Sihouette Vinyl machine- love! A friend asked if I had a website for my goodies…..
I laughed and mentioned a mostly neglected blog. These are a few things I’ve made from my cell photos.

day in the life

This being a grown up stuff, well it’s not nearly as much fun as I thought it would be…
We’re running late and G doesn’t like the one remaining clean pair of underwear in his drawer, and A needs yet another form signed right now or the world will end, right now!, and I’m making coffee, because I need the coffee, and water drips from the ceiling, and the kid’s tub is right above the kitchen, and more water pours down. At work I see and I am asked to mediate four kinds of abuse and dysfunction and it’s not even lunch time. Lessons for one kid and the other one is in the foulest of moods, no water at home, hubs is still working on the plumbing, so we go to a restaurant but no one talks and the stink eye bounces around freely. Then ah, the most dreaded time of day, homework. I love seeing my kids learn but this after this day, no one is in the zone. So I buy myself flowers while running out for milk and there is always tomorrow. I hope someday when G and A have beautiful families of their own, that I get a call and hear a story like this. I’ll bring over grocery store flowers and they will know their mother’s heart and life a bit better. And to my sweet mama, I apologize for any static I ever threw your way.

So CNN announces today that, wait for it, Hello Kitty is NOT a cat but rather a little British girl…..uh, no!

I do NOT and WILL not accept this! With pending civil war in the Ukraine, Ebola, and ISIL threatening all that is good and holy, why do I care? Because this precious nine year old loves Hello Kitty. She is growing up too fast in a world that is spinning closer to annihilation every day. Nope, you cannot change Hello Kitty after forty years. She has whiskers people! While I’m living in denial, Pluto will always be a planet to me. So there, world. Don’t mess with Hello Kitty or Ava or Ava’s love for Hello Kitty!
