I’m a bit unsteady from these waves of gratitude.  It’s shimmery, too bright, throwing me off-balance.  I am thankful to God for his blessings in my life.

There have been sweet words, a smile, a prayer whispered, a laugh, a glass of wine at girls’ night.  I am grateful.  Thank you for showing up today.  If not today, then thank you for all the other days of showing up in my life.  I am grateful.  It was a wonderful day.  Kelley

So instead of making 60 key lime cupcakes for grand opening or cleaning up my garage that looks like a slum in India, I’m showing you some thrifty treasure from today.  I was sucked into the force field of a yard sale in a ritzy neighborhood today.  Lucky jeans for $1, yes please.  Size 0, I don’t care, I will re-sell.  I spent $50 to fill up the trusted Pilot and pealed into the first consignment shop I saw.  I walked away with $34 cash and these little goodies. Why yes that is a Lily Pulitzer skirt, pink Converse shoes, and a Vera Bradley hat.  Fun times, fun times.  The afternoon got even better as Becky and I went junk picking at the Good Will in Bearden.  I love that girl!  Now off to make bountiful amounts of culinary delights for tomorrow’s grand opening.  Hope to see you there!

Oh Joey,  Where do I start? Let’s see: soul mate, fab sense of humor, father of our children, champion of the late night chocolate run, and wickedly good with power tools.

So while I’m in spaz mode adding merchandise to the booth, Joey decides he’ll wrangle 100-year-old banisters and eves from the grainery at the old family farm 25 miles away.  Through chiggers, weeds, and dust, with 15 minutes before closing, he made the store front of the booth.  I love this man.

Brand New, Bouncing Booth, a Strapping Shop if you will. Design Narrative feels a lot like my previous birthing experiences. Today I’ve been equal parts exhausted, nauseous, tearful, and ecstatically happy. This bundle of joy took 10+ years to come to be, two intense weeks of labor, and immense help from fabulous family and friends. Today it’s real and I’m in awe. A lot like giving birth I say. The official sip and see is Saturday from 12-2 but Design Narrative has arrived as of 6:01 June 1, 2011!  More photos will follow…this mama is tired!

Even though this is a design blog, I decided we’ll have a little cupcake of the month post. In honor of Natalie, Jack-Jack, and baby Froe (now know as Vanessa), I made dark chocolate Guinness cupcakes with ganache, whipped cream, and fresh berries. Oh sweet Ireland, you gave us U2, Van Morrison, the Cranberries, and last but not least Guinness-the only beer I can drink. I love you Ireland. And you too Miss June. And of course baby Froe!Miss June had to lose the whipped cream for her close up- it’s 102 in my sunroom!!!

It’s not weird to spend three hours testing out recipes for next week on Memorial Day, right? I think we have a winner: Meet Miss May- a key lime mini cupcake filled with home-made key lime curd (thank you very much) and topped with lime buttercream, iridescent sugar, and lime zest. She will be meeting and greeting on June 4th at Design Narrative. It feels good to score in the kitchen after the Oreo fiasco.

So it’s a quite Sunday morning, hubs and children are sleeping. I make coffee and drink in the joy of alone time. Then I decide to make a fun, little crafty for sister turning 30 today. Two bags of oreos and enough curses to rival a mass of drunken sailors, This is the end result. Two words, Never Again! Kelley

Meet Becky

A random adventure… yes please.  Kelley (a new girl crush for me) brought up her design narrative idea to me last week at Borders and well I guess I just jumped in.  In my so called “previous life” (3 years ago) I worked as an interior/graphic designer for an architectural firm and overdosed on the pressure to be creative 60 hours a week.  Boo… After a quick recovery from the overdose I found my second (maybe hidden first) love, teaching special needs kiddos.  I’m in year 3 and couldn’t love it more.  For 1,000 reasons I know I’m now doing the work I was crafted to do, and one of those reasons is now I get to be creative without the pressure.  I could go on but then that’s boring.  Check out my ramblings and creations here

Coming to Fruition!  I’m opening a booth in an antique mall with an artist pal!  Whimsy, food, and fun, oh my.  I’ll try not to cry (even though I already have).  Love to see you at our Open House, June 4th from 12-2 at Homespun, 11523 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37934.
